India's new education minister has revoked a drastic tuition cut forced upon the country's six prestigious management institutes by the previous government, writes Shailaja in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

First of all I do not understand why the fee-cut is a bad thing at all as it is made out in the media. As a student it is great to study without the thought of debt which many graduates are forced to take - even if they know in their mind that it will take just a year after joining a job to clear it off but still these guys deserve to get 'free' education as a reward for getting through tremendous competition.
I suppose that the fear of losing revenue is illogical. Everyone knows about the sums of money that IIT's get from their alumnus and IIM's can always follow this path. It is also well known as to the salaries these guys get although it is not well documented of where these guys end up on the business ladder. I am sure a few of them can spare a couple of millions for their alma-matter.
can i just say that the late Dhiren Bhagat was an A-class areshole? A friend gifted me a book of DB's "collected" writings and I put it on the shelf. Just picked it up now. Bugger! The guy is a pontificating, holier-than-thou pen pusher! Don't get me wrong. When I was young (and perhaps silly) DB was like, a GOD! So I go into the book, looking for the stuff that might have made me confer god-like status on him...all i found was that DB, like many of his ilk, was struck by 'Indian columnistitis' and/or 'Indian writeritis.'
Most egregious was that he couldn't figure out whether Khushwant Singh was a terrible writer or a bloody genius. My view: But for Train to Pakistan, KS as well, is a bloody arse. He can't write to save his life! And all the Indian-press-pedagogy about him, is just that. DB and KS (I know that sounds awful) seem like two peas in a pod. Except KS outlived DB and soldiered on with the BS....
Oh yeah..the book also has a little chap. by DB (clearly {or maybe not} book was intended before DB died) titled "Why I am a Conservative," and it has NOTHING about why DB is a conservative.....just a lot of, erm, BOLLOCKS, really, that is begun with sentiments like ..I am not conservative because i studied at Oxford and Margie Thatcher is PM---.
Hello? then why? troll through it..you won't find why DB 'chooses' to call himself a C....
not to mention other really annoying chapters...erm..annoying to me, that is...gotta go back and read more (or puke more, depending on sensibility of chaps.).....

yup... kushwant sukcs big time. dhiren bhagat no idea... but is he a north indian? cant possibly make a writer in that case... interestingly, he died in a 'car accident' after exposing a slightly uncomfortablefact about the indian state (or state within the state if you want to get really paranoid) - that the ltte lead prabhakaran was given tons of money by RAW or whoever it is who does these kinds of things in the indian govt. the money was delivered personally by an IFS diplomat, Hardip Puri, to Prabhakaran's fortified domain in Jaffna. Anyway, all of this is in the public domain, so I'm not saying anything new.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is was he killed by RAW or perhaps the LTTE? Shiver shiver...
Sorry you think Dhiren Bhagat was a first class arsehole but there isn't much point trying to convince you otherwise. I don't think that Dhiren's reputation will suddenly collapse because of your comments, which come 20 years ago to the week when he died. However, just to let you know that there was no conspiracy involved in his death - he was a dreadful driver. He was late going to the airport to catch a flight to Bombay and overtook a bus on a blind corner and smacked into an oncoming bus. Quite how RAW could pull such an event off is beyond me - I saw the vehicles shortly after it happened and also heard secondhand from witnesses.
