sonal shah denies links to hindu nationalism

In case anybody reads this who doesn't read the Indian press, Sonal Shah, the member of Obama's team who was a member of the VHP's American branch as part of a charitable relief project, has clarified that she has no interest in the chauvinist policies of the Hindu right.

Goes to show that all of us should be sure to check the antecedents of the groups to which we donate our time or money. They could be one step removed from organizations that we have no desire to support.

And it goes to show that everyone needs to do more research before starting a smear campaign against someone.

What she was put through was ridiculous. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

The people ready to smear are so gung-ho on their own morality that they trample innocents along the way.

Oops, just to be clear - the previous comment was not aimed at you, Jason :)

Rather, it was aimed at Vijay Prashad who wrote the original piece with the vile accusations.

We can't hold a person accountable for their relatives' beliefs. Just like we can't hold Obama accountable for his pastor's beliefs.
